I tend to use Cakewalk as my DAW.
Many VSTs came with Cakewalk. Several of them won't run except in conjunction with Cakewalk.
This is a analog style VST that comes with Cakewalk. Unfortunately, it is old and doesn't come with much documentation. Some of the controls have no explanation, (including one to select the wave shape) so it doesn't seem useful at this time.

This has a special installer, which handles authorization. F:\cakewalk\xln-online-installer-win What is annoying is that the drums don't match the MIDI Drum Map.
Allows slicing of WAV files, to replace a certain kick drum, for example.
Multi-sample synths, allows stacking of samples.
This is an installable driver which makes all sound cards appear to be ASIO compatible with less latency.
I purchased this as multiple CDs costing over $500. I think they were in Akai format, but I was able to use trial software to convert to another format. Then I used VSampler to convert to SF2. They play OK when played with Sforzando SF2 player from inside of Cakewalk.

The reviewer liked it for mockups, liked the included Pianos, didn't like fixed violin vibrato on some patches.

Purchased ProjectSAM - Orchestral Essentials 2
I felt that the Flute, Oboe, Trumpet and soft Strings are very usable. It should be usable under Sonar because it plays with Kontakt 5 Player.

Had problems controlling the volume. When restarting Cakewalk, Kontakt player had full volume until something reset it (like clicking the MIDI/Audio reset button) then it would get softer.
The apparent fix is to write a Control 1 to value 0 to the beginning of the song for Kontakt instruments (Orchestral Essentials, in my case). Had to use Event editor to do this.
